Twenty-five years after September 11, Fox Pest Control found its own way to remember: not with silence, but with shovels. This year, in northern Utah, home of Fox’s headquarters, local governments organized Cache Valley Day of Service on 9/11.

Fox Pest Control answered the call. Nearly 30 volunteers, including President Jamie Holyoak, showed up at Elk Ridge Park in North Logan, blue Fox Giving shirts standing out against the crowd. By day’s end, Fox made up the bulk of all volunteers on site.
Together they planted 24 trees and spread more yards of gravel than anyone cared to count. Landscaping in the heat is tiring work. After spending time shoveling rock into wheelbarrows, flanked by coworkers doing the same, one volunteer later remarked how “listening to the shovels scrape against the rock, that moment reminded me of the volunteers and first responders who did far harder work in the days after 2001 in New York City. It was a touching experience to serve the community today.”
The trees planted that day are thin and staked against the wind for now. Nothing impressive yet. But in another 25 years, they’ll shade a bench, a picnic, a family who may never know the morning those trees were planted for. One morning, 30 volunteers, 24 trees. And a small ripple that will keep spreading.
