18 Core Values: The Foundation of Fox Pest Control

Fox Pest Control isn’t just a company, it’s a family. Whether you’re a new employee, a potential customer, or you’re interested in learning more about us, these are the principles that make us who we are.

Co-founders Mike Romney and Bryant White started Fox Pest Control with these values at the heart of everything they did.

We aren’t afraid to say that everyone with these principles at the core of everything that they do in their personal and professional lives will reap the benefits that these values bring.

The #1 Most Important of All:

1. Build and Strengthen Relationships

“The person is more important than the problem”

Whether you work with us or do business with us, everyone at Fox is determined to help you feel part of the Fox Family.

If you think about possessions, the car, the house, the boat, the clothes, the money, the furniture, the jewelry, nothing is more important in this world than the people in it, and no one is more important than the people closest to you.

No one on their deathbed wishes they had worked those few extra hours of overtime or spent more time on their boat or driving their car. When the end is inevitable and the last breath will soon be drawn, relationships always come first to mind.

When Mike and Bryant started Fox Pest Control, our main goal was to build relationships, so it didn’t matter to us what business venture we used. We could have started any kind of business, so long as it involved people and our relationships with them. We just happened to start with pest control as our vehicle for this important principle. Our ultimate goal in everything we do is to cultivate and maintain lifelong relationships with everyone we meet.

2. Extreme Ownership

0/100 means: 0 Excuses / 100% Responsibility

“Taking responsibility is Who We Are”

Improvement in personal, business, or family life is difficult if no one is willing to own their mistakes and take the responsibility to improve.

Mistakes are a part of the human experience, and the prevailing opinion of society is to call mistakes the worst thing a person could do during their day. While it is true that mistakes can cause us hardship, they don’t have to be permanent.

Perfectionism can be an unachievable ideal that both damages and hinders our ability to grow and achieve excellence.

Everyone who achieved consistent excellence started out by making consistent mistakes. And then they improved those mistakes. Rather than immediate perfection, Extreme Ownership is the path to excellence.

3. Family

“We balance family and working hard”

No one at Fox has to wonder who is most important when it comes to our priorities. Fox Pest Control’s goal is to protect families from dangerous pests and the nuisance they cause.

Every employee at Fox Pest Control is allowed to make their family their priority. We try hard to extend to each employee the time and opportunities they need to spend with their families.

Because of this, Fox doesn’t work on Sundays, and we try to limit working hours on Saturdays.

4. Team

“We are team members, not Employees”

Every employee at Fox is a part of something larger. Every individual is connected in one way or another to everyone else. Just as a defensive lineman is no more or less important than a running back, and just as the quarterback depends on the offensive lineman, we all rely on one another to achieve something no individual could accomplish alone.

Each prospective employee at Fox is hired through a special vetting process to ensure that they will add to the positive culture, momentum, and growth Fox continues to achieve. We are united in our purpose, our goals, and our mission.

5. Fear Not

“We don’t make decisions based on Fear”

Too many of us choose to avoid problems and confrontations rather than face them directly and work together to solve them. Fox is committed to instilling in every employee the confidence and courage to take the step forward that leads to excellence.

6. No Gossip

“We pass negatives up and positives all around”

Hundreds of work environments include an atmosphere of such fierce, divided competition that backstabbing and undercutting have become a normal aspect of some business cultures.

Not at Fox. When someone makes a mistake, we know how to help one another improve.

Occasionally, someone might need training, extra attention, or discipline from a superior. That’s why negatives about other employees are passed up to a superior. The only word that is passed around is the positive results that other employees accomplish.

No one at Fox should ever feel as though the other employees are talking behind one another’s backs or undercutting one another. As a family, we rejoice in our successes and yearn for our overall improvement.

7. No Limits

“Awareness + Ability + Choices = Capacity”

Many people allow their fears and a false notion of their limitations to prevent them from advancement in the path to excellence.

Consistent growth beyond the limits we never believed possible to overcome requires us to gain a more accurate awareness of ourselves, the situations in which we find ourselves, and the people around us.

It also requires us to apply our abilities to the tasks and required actions at hand. And finally, we must choose to take advantage of the opportunities that come our way, and we must continually choose to achieve a little more every day.

8. Excellence in the Ordinary

“We are faithful in the little things”

Even the smallest, most menial tasks can have far-reaching and unforeseen consequences. The most important acts of excellence involve little to no fanfare and are usually done without anyone to watch.

A Pest Pro Technician taking a little extra time on a home perimeter treatment, a Fox customer service employee taking a few minutes extra on the phone to help calm a customer’s fears about an invasive pest, a service coordinator giving that little personal touch while giving a quote to a potential customer, all these things are ordinary ways each of us choose to go the extra mile.

And acts like this aren’t confined to the workplace alone. Mothers, fathers, and other caregivers may awaken in the early hours of the night to feed the baby, or take a few extra minutes to play with the toddler after an exhausting day at work, or find a way to cook a meal for hungry mouths despite exhaustion, injury, or stress..

We don’t underestimate the heroism of giving a little extra to our families, our customers, and our team.

9. Never Give Up

“We impose our will on the marketplace”

When Fox began in 2012, it was a tiny pest control company with only a few family members for employees.

Since then, we have grown to be one of the top 20 largest pest control companies in the nation. And it’s because we don’t give up. We don’t let setbacks slow us down.

We didn’t get in the top 20 in seven years because of our own perfection. We got there because we provide the kind of service that people want from a company. We impose our will on the market, and our will is to give top-notch quality service every time.

10. Self-Employed Mentality

“This isn’t a J-O-B. We all act like we own the place”

From the co-founders Mike Romney and Bryant White to the Pest Pro Technicians and the Customer Service personnel who answer phone calls, everyone at Fox takes the responsibility on their shoulders to ensure that every task is given the utmost importance and every customer is treated like family.

11. Marketplace Service

“If we help enough people, we don’t have to worry about money”

We value our customers and do everything we can to provide top-quality service and ensure complete customer satisfaction.

Our customer service employees aren’t located in a call center in a foreign country. Our customer service employees are interviewed and vetted thoroughly to ensure they represent Fox with kindness and professionalism.

Not anyone can be a Fox Pest Pro Technician. Pest Pros are interviewed, submitted to a background check, and vetted thoroughly to ensure they are Fox quality before they are allowed to service our customers.

If a customer isn’t satisfied with our service, we aren’t satisfied, and we won’t stop until the job is done right.

12. Momentum Theory

“We know that focused intensity over time, multiplied by God, creates unstoppable momentum”

Momentum requires everyday efforts that may seem menial at first, but they can bring about incredible results. Momentum is built by everyday habits that inevitably bring amazing results.

This theory relates to anything from attitude to work performance. If we want better customer service, we hone the daily habits that make a great customer experience. If we want to improve our services, we take a little extra time, go the extra mile.

We aren’t ashamed of our belief in God. We believe that God can and will transform even the smallest effort into something long-lasting and effective. We aren’t ashamed to say that the Fox Core Values are derived from God’s teachings. It is our belief in God that helps us to dream, to build, and to become our best selves.

13. Righteous Living

“We believe that character matters all the time”

Dwight L. Moody said, “Character is what you think in the dark,” and at Fox we try to embody that ideal.

Everyone who works at Fox must fit in with the culture of self-improvement, treatment of subordinates as peers and friends, and excellence in private and public life.

Pest Pros undergo a thorough background check and vetting process before they are Fox Certified and allowed to represent our family to prospective and current customers at home.

Honesty and integrity are the number one way to live, whether it’s in your private life, business life, or family life.

14. Attitude and Effort

“Optimistic attitudes and 100% effort is what we do”

No burden is harder to bear than a poor attitude. In any environment, whether it’s in a family, business, community, or society, the attitude of each individual constitutes and shapes the atmosphere and culture of that environment.

Effort is much easier to give when coupled together with an optimistic attitude.

And gratitude is the best attitude of all. When we are grateful for what we have, we let go of the things we don’t have and don’t need, and our motivation to work hard for what we don’t have and still need increases.

15. Lift Where You Stand

“The most important job in the company is the one you currently hold”

This idea comes from a story of several men who attempted to move a grand piano onto a raised platform. They concocted multiple strategies to lift the piano, but none of them worked.

They gathered around the piano, trying to figure out what to do. No one had any ideas.

Finally, one of the men said, “Men, lift where you stand.” Gathered evenly around the six foot long piano, the men finally lifted the piano, carted it onto the platform, and placed it where it needed to be.

Any culture or society functions best when each member chooses to carry their allotted portion as best as they can. This principle teaches us that no matter your difficulties or where you are in life your contribution adds something to the synergistic efforts of the whole.

16. Crusade

“We are crusaders doing work that matters”

We’re not talking about the Crusades of the Middle Ages. We’re talking about engaging in a different kind of mission.

Crusade comes from the Latin word “crux” or “cruc-,” meaning “cross,” and entered the English language through the French, “croisée,” meaning to cross oneself or to bear a cross.

The mission, or cross, that we carry is to make the world a better place, not just through pest control, but through our way of life and the principles we instill and encourage in every environment in which we find ourselves.

We believe in creating lifelong relationships and following strong moral principles. Pest control is just one of the ways we do it.

17. Shoot Sacred Cows

“We stick by our principles. We challenge traditions”

“Shoot sacred cows” is an invitation to innovate and do things differently. Our employees think outside the box, which means we aren’t hampered by outdated modes that bog us down.

This idea is based on a household legend. A mother teaches her daughter to cook a ham. The daughter asks, “Why do you cut off the end of the ham?” The mother doesn’t know, except that’s the way her mother always did it. So they call Grandma and ask her why she cut the end off the ham.

Grandma says, “I cut the end off the ham so it would fit in my pan.”

Mother and daughter then learned that not all traditions apply anymore. Years of wasted ham finally ended when someone took the time and energy to question tradition and stick to effective principles.

Our principles guide us in everything we do. Character, relationships, and everything in life that matters must always have room in our lives.

We shed the dead traditions, follow our principles like a compass, and always improve.

18. Share the Profits

“We win together, we lose together”

Fox doesn’t believe in keeping everything to yourself. We donate and give back to the community.

We also make sure every member of the Fox Family is taken care of, and that no one feels their effort goes unnoticed.

We are proud to contribute to our society in many ways, including donating time, talents, and anything we possess. We feel an obligation to those around us to give our time and talents to improving our world and make it a better place.
