Buffalo Bowl Brings Big Heart (and Big Energy) to Highmark Stadium

On June 6–7, 2025, Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, NY, wasn’t just home to football; it was home to something even bigger: community, confidence, and a whole lot of love.
This year marked the 9th annual Buffalo Bowl, a 6-on-6 flag football tournament that brought together over 70 teams from across New York State for an unforgettable weekend of competition and connection.
More Than a Tournament
What made this event truly special was the incredible presence of the Unified divisions, where Special Olympics athletes competed alongside coaches, community members, and first responders. It wasn’t just about scoring points or winning games. It was about teamwork, inclusion, and showing up for each other.
The energy in the stadium was something you could feel. Every play had the crowd cheering. Every touchdown felt like a moment to celebrate. And every team brought the kind of heart you don’t always see in everyday life.
A Weekend That Makes a Real Difference
The Buffalo Bowl didn’t just create amazing memories. It also made a major impact, raising approximately $250,000 to support Special Olympics athletes with year-round training and competition across 22 Olympic-style sports. And the best part? It’s provided at no cost to athletes or their families.
That means more opportunities, greater confidence, and more moments when these athletes can do what they love and be celebrated for it.

For many families, one of the most emotional parts of the weekend was watching their kids compete with confidence, sometimes for the first time in a mainstream sports environment.
Seeing their loved ones treated with dignity and equality wasn’t just meaningful; it was transformative. It was powerful. For many families, it brought a renewed sense of hope about what the future can look like.

At the end of the day, Buffalo Bowl was the perfect mix of love and competition. It brought together the Fox family and the families of some truly inspiring Special Olympics heroes.
