Scorpions are arachnids, not insects, meaning they are closely related to spiders and ticks. These nocturnal pests primarily feed on small spiders, crickets, and cockroaches, and will enter your Buffalo Area home to take shelter in cool, dark places. Scorpions are commonly thought to be poisonous, and although some species are, most of the Scorpions in the U.S. are not poisonous. They will sting when threatened, similar to a wasp. It’s better to assume that they are poisonous just to be safe. If you have scorpions in your home, Fox Pest Control, your local Buffalo Area pest control service, is here to help exterminate them.

All scorpions pack venom in their stinger, but few can kill a human. The most poisonous scorpions are usually the larger ones, but that isn’t always the case. It’s best to be cautious around them, no matter which type it is.
One good rule to follow is based on the size of the claws. With a couple of exceptions, the most dangerous scorpions have small, slender claws. Almost all of the harmless scorpions have large, impressive claws.
Scorpions are a type of arachnid, which means they are distantly related to spiders.
Eight legs
Two pincers called pedipalps
A stinger on the end of a curled tail
Pincer-like mouthparts
Part of the reason scorpions look so weird is that they are essentially dinosaur bugs that survived through ancient times.
Pincers originally evolved to help trap and push food toward the mouth. Eventually, they became excellent traps and weapons scorpions use today. While that creepy-looking appearance may be gross, it also makes the scorpion an extremely effective hunter and really good at self-defense.
Interestingly enough, those pincers aren’t actually legs. They are a pair of structures called pedipalps, which they use to capture prey, defend against predators, and to push food toward the mouth.
Scorpions are some of the first animals that started walking on land full-time. According to the fossil record, scorpions first appeared about 400 million years ago, long before the dinosaurs. Some of these scorpions reached about 1 meter long and looked extremely similar to the scorpions of today.
Scorpions first appeared in the fossil record about 400 million years ago, which means they are among the first animals to walk on land full-time.
Most scorpions can live between 2-6 years, depending on the living conditions, whether it gets enough food and whether the temperatures and weather are harsh.

Good service from Cassius today. Friendly. Explained what he was going to do. After he was done, made suggestions on how we could further protect the house from attack. Explained pet protocol for our dog. Very informative. Thanks!

I've been a Fox Pest customer for 2 years now, and I'm so pleased with the service and my tech Chris Clark. I have pesky ants that come out every spring, and this has been the quickest they've been under control thanks to Chris and his quick follow up. He explained his treatment plan (and made sure it was safe for my pets) and scheduled a return appointment to check on the outcome. Thanks Chris!
To ensure our customer's safety, we insist on a thorough screening process for all Fox Pest Control Technicians. They also complete extensive training in the classroom and on the job with an experienced mentor before servicing alone.
