Residents of Stamford experience a number of pest concerns.. Factors that contribute to pest health and the likelihood that they’ll cause problems include humidity, temperature, and the availability of food and water. Areas like High Ridge and North Stamford are replete with natural waterways, ponds, and small lakes, all of which contribute to possible pest management problems like rodents and wasps.
The most frequent pest control problem Fox encounters in Stamford is rodents. Mice and rats take shelter in residents’ homes and search for food. They gnaw through electrical wires, chew on walls, split open food containers, tear up fabric and wall insulation to make nests, and cause many other problems. The biggest risk of a rodent infestation is the diseases they can carry; these include babesiosis, hantavirus, leptospirosis, rat-bite fever, various hemorrhagic fevers, and the plague. Even during the coldest winter months, rats and mice can bring ticks and fleas into the home, which also spread disease.
Wasps are the single most dangerous pest problem Fox usually deals with. Even though many people might have some minor swelling for a few days after a sting, other people can have a more severe reaction with extreme swelling that lasts longer than a few days. Severe allergic reactions like anaphylaxis are life-threatening. Some wasp species make large nests in eaves and soffits or trees, and others make nests in abandoned rodent burrows. If your house is home to a wasp nest in the siding or the eaves, never try to seal off the holes to prevent the wasps from leaving. This could cause the wasps to tunnel into the walls and break through into the house, flying into kitchen areas, basements, or bedrooms.

Michael Sneed, one of our very own Fox technicians and a popular Stamford exterminator, loves spending time in Stamford. Michael lived in this big city for a year when he moved to Connecticut from White Plains, NY. Because he values learning and growing both professionally and personally, Michael took classes from UConn Stamford while living there. Even after moving from the city, he believes Stamford has the best mix of diversity he’s ever seen in Connecticut.
As one of our Stamford Pest Control technicians, Michael is always looking for opportunities to contribute and help those in a community he holds so dear. He found out through his route that we service a nonprofit called Lucky Dog Refuge in Stamford. Michael loves animals, so he refers people to them for service opportunities and pet adoption often. While out and about, he also stops in at Mish Mosh pizzeria for what he refers to as “delicious food and a great stop.”
Michael especially enjoys connecting with the customers he sees on his route. “My really good customers will flag me down,” he said. “You get to know them so well. I’ve seen babies born and kids graduate.” As a family man himself, this is fulfilling for him to see. Michael shared one experience in particular that stands as a testament to why building relationships with customers matters. One of the customers on Michael’s route is a kindergarten teacher. Through getting to know her and her family while servicing their home, he found out she was due to have a baby girl at the same time his cousin was due to have a boy. His cousin was gracious enough to give him some of the gifts she received for a baby girl before they knew the gender so he could deliver them to the customer. Michael was grateful he could help a customer who gives so much to the community. We’re proud to employ technicians like Michael who take Fox Pest Control customer service to a new level.
As a company, Fox takes part in several organizations that bolster the cities in our service area. We’re proud members of the Stamford Chamber of Commerce which comprises close to 1,000 small businesses and corporations. In 2020, we also partnered with Stamford Moms, a site that gives parents all the information, resources, and deals a Stamford resident could ask for.
We want to give a special thanks to Michael, the Stamford Chamber of Commerce, and Stamford Moms for giving Fox a platform to stay connected with our incredible Stamford community!
