The brainchild of Robin Abrams, Teach. Assist. Reach. Connect (TARC) Director and former pageant mom, the Pageant provides girls and young ladies with special needs with the opportunity to live their dreams of being a beauty queen! During each annual event, pageant participants, which range in age and disability, have their hair and makeup done by local beauticians and are then partnered with local beauty pageant winners to learn to walk and wave as they cross the stage in front of their family, friends and the rest of the community.
The pageant, which seeks to remove the stigma of disabilities out and focus on the unique and special qualities of each girl, reinforces self-worth and internal beauty.
As always, the pageant serves as a fundraiser for TARC, a non-profit which has been part of the community of Hammond and Florida Parishes for more than 45 years. TARC provides services and programming to individuals with disabilities and their families. To learn more about TARC and it’s current programs, including Early Intervention Services, TARC Day Habilitation Program, and Community Supports and Services, visit the organization’s website.
This year’s Very Special Miss Louisiana Pageant will be held on June 24 and 25 at Mission Church in Hammond Parish.
While only be one young lady will be crowned the 2022 Very Special Miss Louisiana, we hope that all of this year’s participants and their families take away joyous memories that will last a lifetime!
