Fox Pest Control Sponsors 5-5-5 Safety Program

6 years ago, this community welcomed Fox Pest Control Lubbock Branch with open arms. Since that day, we have looked for ways to give back and reinforce our commitment to the community. Today, as a small gesture of our love, we have made a monetary donation to the 5-5-5 Initiative to further the organization’s efforts of community safety. It’s important to us that we do whatever we can to keep each and every member of our community safe. We are proud to be part of such a wonderful community. Each of the team members at Fox Pest Control’s Lubbock Branch feels it is a privilege to have neighbors, friends, and family that are heroes both in their jobs and in every day acts of kindness.

If you’re not familiar with the 5-5-5 Initiative, here’s what you need to know. You can also learn more at 555safety.com

On January 11, 2020, the Lubbock community lost two good men – Lubbock Police Officer Nicholas Reyna and Fire Rescue Lieutenant Eric Hill. Their tragic deaths occurred while the men were working a traffic accident on North Interstate 27, helping a stranded motorist. In addition to the fatalities, Matt Dawson, a local firefighter was also severely injured. In response to the tragic loss of these heroes that so bravely served our community, a group of citizens spearheaded by Lt. Hill’s parents started the 5-5-5 Initiative with the goal of continuing the legacy of saving lives.

The 5-5-5 Initiative has symbolic meaning. Throughout the history of the fire service, a series of bells has been traditionally used to relay information from one fire house to another. A series of five bells ringing three times, has traditionally been an indication to the fire brotherhood that one of their own had died in the line of duty.

Today, the 5-5-5 Initiative takes the negative connotation of the five ringing bells and turns it into a positive – encouraging the creation of a plan of safety before events, acting in a safe manner, and contacting at least five people you love over the course of your daily routine.

As you go about town, you may see the 5-5-5 messaging on apparel and hear public service announcements encouraging safe actions. The 5-5-5 Initiative is focused on not only bringing awareness, but also change. The group is dedicated to being a voice of change in legislation and procedures to help prevent other first responders from facing the same avoidable fate as Lt. Hill and Officer Reyna. Additionally, the 5-5-5 Initiative provides scholarships to those who desire to be a first-responder.
