Fox Sponsors The Western Rhode Island Civic Historical Society

For the team in Fox Pest Control’s Rhode Island Branch, the rich history of the area is one of the key factors in what makes communities in which the team serves so very, very special. To ensure the preservation and continued education of the western portion of the state, Fox Pest Control has committed to sponsoring The Western Rhode Island Civic Historical Society (WRICHS).

WRICHS, which is completely operated by volunteers, gathers and preserves early and present-day historical materials related to the western area of Rhode Island. The jewel of WRICHS is the Paine House, a former Colonial home and Inn located in Coventry, RI, that has been completely restored and furnished to match the style of the 1690s. Thanks to the hard work of the WRICHS team, the Paine house was added to the National Historic Register in 1974, preserving a piece of the community for generations to enjoy. WRICHS has also put a great deal of work into preserving other buildings around the area, including a barn and fire alarm building.

At the Paine House Museum, guests will find the majority of the WRICHS’s collection containing a wide assortment of items including quits, machinery, military equipment, clothing, household items and more. Additionally, the museum has a gift shop with a great selection of historical and seasonal gifts made by volunteers and local crafters.

Any one who is interested in gaining a deeper understanding or appreciation for the history of western Rhode Island should visit WRICHS’s properties. And, come with your questions about history! The volunteers that staff the buildings are some of the most knowledgeable people you’ll meet, and they are happy to answer your questions! Additionally, WRICHS offers educational and fun community events such as walking tours.
