Did you know that ants rely on scent to guide their way? As they walk, they leave behind a trail of pheromones that other ants can follow. Yep, ants just might be marching into your home one by one. If you don’t catch them soon enough, their numbers can grow quickly. So if the tiny pests have already made their way inside your home, here’s what you can do.
First, make sure you’re doing your best to eliminate any access to food. Keep counters and floors free of crumbs and sticky spills. If there’s anything tasty left out, ants will find it. It’s also best to store already opened packaged food in sealed containers. Ants can be found in clean and dirty homes alike, but keeping things tidy will help discourage these pests from coming inside.

If you see ants in your kitchen, stop and watch them for a minute before trying to get rid of them. See if you can spot which direction they are coming from and going towards. This can help you identify a food source they are taking advantage of, and can also point to where their nest might be. If they’re nesting inside your home, ants look for a warm moist area. That could be behind a refrigerator, under the sink, or near the dishwasher. It’s always a good idea to check your pipes every so often to make sure you catch any leaks.
Where there are a few ants, there are likely many close by. Getting rid of those you see on the kitchen floor won’t always solve the issue. Your ant problem will stick around as long as the queen does.
